Design. Certify. Decarbonise.

A green building consultancy working across design, construction and certification. We make sustainable buildings affordable and accessible to the people who use them.

Who we are

A green building consultancy working across the whole building lifecycle — design, construction and certification. We are human-centric designers first.

Our focus

Bridging the gap between climate responsiveness and affordable, accessible solutions — for environmentalists and environmentalists-to-be.

Our record

We have worked with almost every global and local rating system, and are the most awarded green building consultant in Egypt.

We have gone beyond asking “Why go green?” The question now is “Why not go green?”

What we do

Climate action in the building sector is no longer optional. Architecture for better livelihoods is now an integral part of business growth.

Green building design

Passive-first architecture that cuts cooling demand before a single machine is specified — orientation, envelope, shading, daylight and locally sourced materials.

Certification & rating systems

LEED, EDGE, GPRS and the other global and local systems — from early gap analysis through documentation, modelling and submission.

Energy & water optimisation

Retrofit and new-build measures with measured payback: envelope enhancement, HVAC upgrades, daylighting and controls, solar PV.

Circular & low-carbon solutions

Material strategies that reduce embodied carbon and waste, and keep value inside the building rather than in landfill.

Education & advocacy

Training, capacity building and policy work with government and industry to move the whole sector, not one project at a time.

The economic case

Green buildings cost 1–7% more to build, and far less to own

10–30% lower operating expenses
25–30% savings in energy use
20–30% savings in water use
35% reduction in carbon emissions

Global industry averages for green buildings, not ECOnsult project results.

Recognition

Shortlisted for an Ashden Award. Nominated for the Earthshot Prize.

In 2020 the project was shortlisted for an Ashden Award, run that year with the UNFCCC: Egypt's first green residential scheme to hold 10°C of cooling without mechanical assistance, and the first carbon-neutral residential project in North Africa. ECOnsult was later nominated for the Earthshot Prize.
