Al-Bahareya Village
A desert settlement planned so that shade, wind and mass do the cooling a machine would otherwise do.
Orientation, street width, courtyard depth and material choice are all tuned to the same climate problem. Treating a village as one system makes each of those decisions cheap, because they cost nothing but attention at the planning stage and everything if they are fixed later with equipment.
Materials come from the site and its surroundings, which keeps both embodied carbon and the money inside the community doing the building.
