How far can passive design go before mechanical cooling is needed at all?
The project tests the limit. Form, orientation, mass, shading and ventilation each take out as much of the cooling load as they can, with the switches down and nothing plugged in.
On a typical villa plot that removes most of the peak. What is left is a system small enough to pay for itself, which is the difference between low-carbon housing that gets built and low-carbon housing that gets presented.
