Women’s Centre, Aswan
A community building for one of the hottest inhabited climates in Egypt.
Aswan’s summer leaves no margin for a badly oriented building. The strategy is thermal mass, deep shading and night ventilation — enough to keep the interior usable through the day without a cooling system the community would struggle to run or repair.
That last constraint shapes the material choices as much as the climate does. Everything specified has to be maintainable locally.
