Al-Wadi al-Gadid Museum
A desert museum, where conservation conditions and low energy use pull in opposite directions.

Museums are demanding on every axis at once: stable temperature and humidity for the collection, tightly controlled light levels, and comfort for visitors arriving out of extreme heat.

The approach starts with the building itself. Mass, shaded volumes and small, carefully placed openings take out most of the swing, so the mechanical systems holding conservation conditions carry less of the load and can be sized accordingly.
