A green wall earns its maintenance budget when it is doing thermal work: shading the facade behind it, cooling the air that passes through it, and taking the edge off the heat island at street level.
Irrigation and species selection are engineering decisions here, because in a hot, dry climate they are what determines whether the wall is still alive in its second summer.
